Airplanes landing from head-on or directly behind, especially with a zoom lens, often look like they’re doing a vertical landing. The perspective makes it difficult to see the forward motion so all you see is the vertical. Even the first plane in this video looks like it’s doing a vertical landing:

That telephoto perspective is really fucking up my head.
